Young Leaders

The Young Leader Scheme is one of the options you have once you reach the Explorer age group (14-18). Young Leaders are Explorers who volunteer with another section, as part of the leadership team, to provide a varied and interesting programme for the young people of that section (Beavers/Cubs/Scouts).

Everyone who is a Young Leader in Southampton City must be registered with the Young Leader Unit (contact Iain below), and undertake some basic training (it’s not hard!), to help them complete their role well and safely.

Some Explorers help with a section while completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award’s Service. They must also register with the Young Leader unit, and complete the basic training (the training time counts as service hours), in order for their service to count for DoE.

Most Young Leaders choose to come along to our monthly meeting (details below), and receive further training and support with their role, as well as having a fun time and meeting other Young Leaders. The training we complete at Young Leader meetings helps you to progress through your Adult Leader training when you turn 18 (should you wish to take up an appointment).

Roll of Honour: Young Leader Belt – Abi

Congratulations to Abi for achieving the highest award available for Young Leaders, the Young Leader Belt buckle, a well deserved award for all the hard work she has put in after four years of hard work and dedication. Volunteering as a Beaver leader at the 29th Portswood Immaculata, Abi took an active role in planning their programme, running their section and organising activities and events for the young people, now taking a role as a full adult leader.

Young Leaders Going Strong

Young Leaders are still going strong, and we’ve had an influx of new members with the new term. It’s been lovely to welcome all the new faces, but we’re aware there are more out there. Just a reminder that everyone of explorer age (14-18) helping with a section, whether for DoE or scouting, needs to […]
